Hey there, Soothers! Just a reminder, I’m on a quasi-summer break until September or so, when Soother goodness will return most Sundays to the full list. For now, I’m sharing updates for my paid subscribers, and you can become one of those here.

A lot of you had really beautiful responses and thoughts to my recent post on “Never taking more than half,” about releasing scarcity by practicing tenets of nature stewardship. And I’ve known for a long time that much of my audience is very interested in increasing what we could call our “abundance mindsets” — that is, our ability to feel there is plenty that surrounds us, to feel we have enough, to be able to recognize and see the good and the gratitude that is already in our lives.

The opposite of abundance mindset is a scarcity mindset, and that’s the kind of mindset that can only focus on what there’s NOT enough of, or can only focus on the woes, the bad, the disappointments; a mindset that feels constantly on edge and fearful.

When we talk about moving from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset, it of course seems logical that we would want to do that around money, one of the areas in life where most of us do feel scarcity.

But how can we practice abundance thinking around money when inflation is rising; when capitalism and its ills are very real and affecting most of us; when there are layoffs; and so on?

Money scarcity honestly, IS pretty real these days, for a lot of folks. And I think it can be counter-productive to try to gaslight or shame or force ourselves into an abundance mindset around money. Or to think that one of the reasons we may be suffering monetarily is because we “just don’t have an abundance mindset.”

That said, I do think it is a pretty worthwhile exercise to focus on cultivating an abundance mindset. And luckily, I think we can do it in ways that are non-monetary and practical and cost us really nothing to engage with and to try on.

Below are several really small, and eminently doable for anyone ways to work to shift into an abundance mindset where you feel full of more trust, have less scarcity, are present for the goodness all around you, AND that don’t require you to ignore any realities of your current financial situation or the number in your bank account.

PS: Before we dive into this topic, I’m hosting a New Moon Journal Circle tonight at 8pmET inside my Sunday Soother Membership, $22, replay provided, register here.

And I’d also like to invite you to my Highly Sensitive Person Leadership Summit, a free 3-day training in September - replays provided and details here.
